XC TRAINING AT ITS BEST
Berwick Farm is an arable farm, which, until 2019, had been farmed by the Pearl family for over a century, originally as part of the Suttons Estate. Berwick Farm now forms part of the Hayleys Group.
Our Cross Country (XC) course was originally built by Graham Wallin (BE Silver) in 1989, in preparation for the Essex Hunt North Pony Club to host the inter-branch Gosling Cup competition. Over the following few years, Graham vastly extended and improved the course, to the extent where, in 1992, we were able to host our first Novice Affiliated Horse Trials, and in 1993, our first Intermediate Affiliated Horse Trials.
Graham and his team continue to introduce new fences to the course each season, and ensure the course is continually maintained to the highest of standards.
Spread over 200 acres of stunning Essex countryside, our XC course boasts 2.5 miles of tracks, two water complexes and two woodlands with jumps in and out.
The Junior part of our course, towards the north of the farm, features jumps between 55cm to 75cm. The Senior part has jumps up to 105cm.
Graham ensures that the locations and combinations of jumps are regularly changed, both to maintain variety and to ensure ground conditions are kept optimal.
We have a longstanding association with the Essex Hunt North Pony Club, who annually host their One-Day-Event, Hunter Trial and Senior Camps here, as well as running regular rallies throughout the season.
As well as the course being available for hire to individuals, we welcome any clubs or groups who might wish to host their training clinics or rallies at Berwick Farm.
